He has also taught economics on various professional courses. He is also co-author with Dean Garratt and Alison Wride,Principal of the Greenwich School of Management, of Economzcs Pearson Education, 8th e Dean Garratt is a lecturer in economics at Nottingham Business School. Dean joined Nottingham Trent after a spell working as an economic assistant at both HM Treasury and then at the Council of Mortgage Lenders. While at these institutions Dean was briefing on a variety of issues relating to the household sector and to the housing and mortgage markets. His time as an economic assistant has significantly influenced Dean''s approach towards the teaching of economics. This has seen Dean increasingly adopt a problem or issues-based approach in his teaching of economics. He believes that this approach helps to foster amongst students the same interest and fascination that Dean has for economics. Dean believes that a deeper understanding of what it means to ''think like an economist'' is achieved when students are able to see the relevance and application of economic ideas and principles.
