He is a frequent speaker at scientific events, and is often asked to serve as an expert or interviewee for such programs as NPRs Morning Edition and Science Friday. He has appeared on national television and he served as the Chief Scientist for Disneynatures feature film Wings of Life, narrated by Meryl Streep and scheduled for release on Blu-ray DVD in April, 2013. Buchmann holds a doctorate in Entomology from the University of California at Davis. He lives in Tucson, AZ.
