In the past 70 years since the founding of the Peoples Republic of China,
the lives of Chinese people have undergone radical transformation. The
significant improvement in basic necessities and enrichment in material,
spiritual and cultural life reflect social progress. The book, Memories of
Chinese Life, aims at reflecting the tremendous progresses in dribs and
drabs. As for the structure, the book breaks down the independent
planning from 1949, and divides the contents into chapters of the 1950s,
60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, the new millennium and the new era. The preview
of each chapter begins by summarizing the times and keywords of life
memories and concludes by bridging the preceding and the following
chapters. It identifies isolated matters in daily life that could deeply touch
the memories of people, such as the Lenin Coat, food coupons and water
supply stations along Shanghai lanes in the 1950s, the Little Red Book,
slingshot and cockfight in the 60s, the Eight Model Operas, picture-story
books, 36 legs and three betrothal presents with wheels and one with
sound, the sweet fragrance of puffed rice, chicken feather for sugar and
bell-bottom in the 70s, red skirts, fake collars, disco, Teresa Teng, and
dagedacell phones in the 80s, the one-pace skirt, stirrup leggings,
Shopping Basket Program, raw seafood, the turbulence of the stock
markets and supermarkets in the 1990s, the bellyband, Tang suit, home
mortgage slavery, Super Girl, CRH Train, Dwelling Narrowness, Apple,
two-child policy for only-child parent in the new millennium, WeChat
