Energy security and reliable power supply， as one of the top priorities of everycountry， are crucial to the national economy and people’s livelihood Since the 18 th NationalCongress of the Communist Party of China (CPC)， General Secretary Xi Jinping has stoodat the height of integrating the overall picture of the strategy for the great rejuvenation ofthe Chinese nation and the profound changes unseen in a century， proposed the energystrategy of “Four Reforms and One Cooperation”， and the building of a New Type of PowerSystem (NTPS) and a New Type of Energy System (NTES)， which are the main principlesfor China’s high-quality energy development in the new eraIn March 2021， General Secretary Xi Jinping made an important plan for China’sclimate goals at the ninth meeting of the Central Committee for Financial and EconomicAffairs， emphasizing the importance of building the NTPS and clarifying the direction ofChina’s energy transition State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) released the firstaction plan for China’s climate goals among Chinese companies， and the action plan forbuilding the NTPS， with concrete measures and clear roadmapsIn his Report to the 20 th CPC National Congress in October 2022， General SecretaryXi Jinping mentioned that China should “deeply promote the energy revolution” and“accelerate the planning and building of the NTES” In July 2023， General SecretaryXi Jinping pointed out that we should deepen the reform of the power system， andaccelerate the building of the NTPS that is clean and low-carbon， secure and sufficient，affordable and efficient， supply-demand coordinated， as well as flexible and smart， in orderto push forward the revolution of energy production and consumption， and guarantee theenergy security of the country In the same month， General Secretary Xi Jinping statedthat China should “implement the ‘1 N’ policy framework for China’s climate goals， builda clean， low-carbon， safe and efficient energy system， and accelerate the building of theNTPS” at the National Conference on Ecological and Environmental Protection State Gridcontinued to deepen its theoretical research， analyzed the NTPS and the NTES from theperspectives of epistemology， methodology and practice， with fruitful resultsWith the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese CharacteristicsPrefacefor a New Era， Xi Jinping’s important speeches on energy strategy， and China’s energydevelopment， this book aims to go through in-depth research on what the NTPS is and howto build it， proposes the methodology， analyzes the relationships between the NTPS and theNTES， as well as states the paths for building of the NTES with the NTPSThis book consists of nine chapters， with analysis and research from threeperspectives: epistemology， methodology and practiceChapter 1 elaborates the significance， connotations of the NTPS， as well as thecharacteristics of the NTPSChapter 2 elaborates the methodology for building the NTPS in five aspects:theoretical innovation， form innovation， technological innovation， industrial innovation，and organizational innovationChapter 3 discusses the theoretical innovation of the NTPS from basic theories andcross-disciplinary integrationChapter 4 discusses the form innovation of the NTPS from the aspects of source-grid-load-storage form innovation and energy Internet form upgradingChapter 5 discusses the technological innovation of the NTPS from the aspects oftechnological innovation system， technical standard system and intellectual propertysupporting systemChapter 6 discusses the industrial innovation of the NTPS from the aspects offundamental， digital and emerging industriesChapter 7 discusses the organizational innovation of the NTPS from the aspects ofmarket construction， mechanism construction and platform constructionChapter 8 analyzes the relationships between the NTPS and the NTES， and proposesthe methodology for building the NTES based on the methodological principlesChapter 9 incorporates the development practice of State Grid and discusses the pathsfor promoting the building of the NTES with the NTPSIn the process of finalizing this book， we have received great support from experts，scholars， power industry peers and other sectors of the community We would like to thankthem for their valuable comments and suggestionsEditorsDecember 2023
